Western Park (160) def. Longwarry (139): In one of the biggest upsets in recent memory in Division 2, Western Park have knocked off the previously undefeated Longwarry to take home a stunning 21-run in the Division 2 Grand Final. Led by the lion-hearted Dave Burn, the Warriors applied pressure from ball one while defending 160 (a total made possible by Matt Wakefield’s amazing 74) and the Crows crumbled against the relentless attack from Western Park. Burn – who injured his hamstring in just the fifth over of the day – again highlighted his talent with the ball, and demonstrated that his bounce and movement off the seam is nigh on impossible to combat on turf or hard wicket. Battling under duress, but never giving in, Burn claimed the key scalps of Sam Pullen (10), Tom Keily (0), and Dale Serong (36) and from there the Crows were under immense pressure. Jake Serong did his level best to restore order to the Longwarry batting, but after escaping with a low target in the semi-final against Drouin there was little they could to deny Western Park in the grand final. Aaron Thomas down the order again threatened to take the game away from Western Park, but Angus Emery – a late call-up to the seconds in the semi-final, and holding his spot in the grand final – caught him short with a direct hit. Kayne Badman snared the final wicket- having Jonah Serong caught – and Longwarry were dismissed for 139, handing Western Park a 21-run win.
